Tony Cragg is an international sculpter who works with a vast aray of materials from wood, glass, bronze and carbon kevlar. This artist has produced some amazing works since the early 1970’s, with his most notable works being shown in galleries in Italy and Germany. Below is an interview with the artist as he discusses sculpture, material and form in the posits of reality.
Back in the summer, i was flipping through an eco-art magazine and came across an image of a diamond encrested skull. Stunned by is shimmering facade and delicate detailing, I tried to find out more about the work of art but had no luck. Fast track to several months later, and I have been sent an invitation to an up-coming brunch/gallery opening with the name “Damien Hirst” to pop up amongst the invitation details. I quickly googled the artist with the gut instinct that he had created something that i have seen before. To my surprise, it was the very artist who was featured but unamed in the eco-magazine I had come across.
Below is a video of the artist in question speaking about his famous skull and a preview to some of his other works. To date, Hirst is one of the worlds highest paid international artists… and judging from the price tags on all of his works, there is no wonder why.
Book – For The Love of God: The Making of the Diamond Skull, Damien Hirst
Today, I stopped by CHRY 105.5 community radio to do some work, and found myself browsing through an intense sorted collection of music from punk, hiphop to reggea and jazz, only to come across Anthem. a contemporary jazz album by grammy award winning trumpeter Christian Scott. The album it self is a brave testiment to the musical abilities of the young generation, but also to the future of jazz/rock infused music. What i love most about the album, is not that its a gem for one who LOVES instrumental/jazz music, but the fact that on the inside of the album booklet, Scott quotes a poem by saul williams; one my favorite contemporary poets, if you havent noticed from all the posts I have of his works.
Below is video “Like This” one of the songs that is featured on Scott’s first album Rewind That.

“what are we really fighting for if our cities are tearing or torn? and what we have is riddled and scorned by the eyes of hegemonic woes? how long must we flow, until the true knowledge of self is born? especially when the well of hip-hop feels as though its drying up and we’re frying up, just to understand what is, because what was will never be again… wondering how will we feed each child, woman and man? do we have the resources to provide? do we have the arsenal to fight or should we use our intelligence to lift off and take flight, from this land where no promises are kept and fly to a better world of earth-hop, peace and love live?” – f.a.
